With many low cost carriers flying to tropical destinations, you can easily afford to pack your bags and head overseas for an extended weekend. If it’s a short trip, save even more on your airfare by just opting to take on carry-on luggage. Attempting to fit all the essentials into one small bag might seem like an impressive feat – but it’s definitely achievable. Here’s what to pack on your next island getaway:

Swimwear

If you’re heading to a tropical destination, you’re likely to be visiting pristine beaches and taking advantage of the swimming, snorkelling and diving opportunities. That being said, swimwear is an absolute must. Pack some bathers or some swimming shorts, and you’ll be set to explore the crystal clear waters.

Medical supplies

You don’t have to carry a kitted-out first aid kit, but a few small essentials are a good idea. Plasters, some pain relief tablets, mosquito repellent and some SPF 30 sunblock are all perfect for tropical weather. However, make sure you remember that airlines have specific regulations for carrying liquids and other materials onto your flight, so ensure you look these up before packing.

Light clothing

Light, breezy t-shirts, shorts and dresses are perfect options for the warm tropical weather. However, it’s also important to prepared – so pack a light sweater for cooler evenings and a light waterproof raincoat in case you get caught in the rain.

Camera

You simply can’t visit a gorgeous tropical island without documenting your experiences, so tucking a camera into your carry-on bag is an absolute must. It might also be worth packing some extra memory cards so you have plenty of space to save all of your photographs. If you really want to get serious with your photos, why not invest in an underwater sleeve for your camera to get some great footage of the reef and marine animals?
