Yoga is an age-old practice that brings together the mind and body, with many exercises that stretch your limbs and centre your thoughts.

Travelling to some of the best places in the world to do yoga is perfect for those who love the practice as well as those who simply want to feel recentred and grounded.

Colorado

Colorado might not be the first place you think of when you’re looking for a yoga specific destination, but there are many great opportunities here.

Shoshoni Yoga Ashram is 40 minutes from Boulder, right in the heart of the Colorado Rockies. As soon as you arrive you’ll get a sense of the sacred, and begin to feel rejuvenated in the mountains. The ashram has organic gardens, solar greenhouses and cabins. Take a moment to hike along the trails with the Rocky Mountains as your backdrop, and visit the art-filled three temples.

At this ashram you can enjoy a yoga and meditation retreat at any time of the year. It’s recently added an Adult Yoga and Meditation Camp, where you can enjoy yoga along with team building games, circus skills and gardening.

New York

The lovely and infamous Central Park in New York is filled with activities and events, and yoga classes is one of them.

We recommend you get there early with an empty stomach so you feel light and can twist into the various stretches, and take your own mat. If you’re travelling light, you can also request to borrow one ahead of time.

The Yoga Trail 101 and 102 will take you to a different location every class and are $12 for first timers. They are designed to be a dynamic class for people of all levels of experience.

India

India and yoga go hand in hand, so what better place to practice it? Enjoy the wonder of the location as well as yoga at the Purple Valley Yoga Retreat. You’ll find this retreat in beautiful Assagao, which is North Goa, right between the Arabian Sea and Anjuna beach.

Here you’ll focus on Ashtanga yoga, which is a fluid series of poses that coincide with your breathing. This form of yoga will challenge you and help you find rhythm and strength, with some of the best teachers in the country for Ashtanga in a peaceful and stunning location.

Enjoy your meals and strike up a conversation with the other students in the glorious open-air terrace while you enjoy  delicious vegetarian dinners and tropical fruit breakfasts.

Bali

Bali is synonymous with peace and revitalisation. The Yoga Barn, nestled in the mountain village of Ubud, has been specifically designed to give only the best treatment and environment to those looking for a healing and renewing experience.

During your visit you’ll have the opportunity to take part in a number of yoga classes, trying a variety of styles from wonderful teachers. These styles include classical hatha, vinyasa flow, pranayama or life force and those that focus on power and restoration.

Maldives

Book yourself in for a yoga class at Kurumba, the first ever resort in the Maldives. Yoga is one of the main activities the resort offers, with the beach location an unimaginably breathtaking place to practice.

A number of classes are available so there’s something for everyone, from beginners to pros. The sunrise and sunset yoga is the ultimate way to enjoy the sea, sun and glory of the landscape while also moving through the poses, breathing and meditation. You can show up to this class with no previous experience and still get a lot out of it.

Head to these locations to be swept of your feet by the gorgeous locations and amazing yoga opportunities. Each one has something different to offer, whether that be authentic teachers or a dynamic routine.
