Head to the South Island for low, all inclusive fares this summer

China Airlines has announced new seasonal flights from Melbourne to Christchurch as well as Sydney to Christchurch flights this summer – offering full service comfort and features at a low cost.

The Sydney - Christchurch service will operate three flights weekly on a Tuesday, Friday and Sunday and Melbourne –Christchurch flights every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, from 26 October 2015 to 27 March 2016. To celebrate the new service, China Airlines is offering promotional fares to Christchurch from just $181 one way and $318 return, including taxes, on sale until 18 September 2015.

As a full-service carrier, all flights on China Airlines include free meals, beverages, a personal entertainment system, and a checked-in bag allowance.

With the services operating six times weekly, this allows for a quick short break around the Canterbury region, or for a longer holiday around the South island where you can take in glaciers, fiords, lakes, mountains and rainforests. The best way to see the spectacular sights is via self-drive. You can hire a rental car or motor home at the airport.


Highlights of the South Island

Approximately three hours south of Christchurch is the Aoraki Mount Cook /Mackenzie region. A region home to a number of glacier fed lakes that feature crystal clear, stunning blue waters. Visit the Church of the Good Shepherd that sits on the edge of Lake Tekapo, view the night sky with Earth and Sky, eat some fresh salmon on the way to Mt Cook, New Zealand’s tallest peak.

Four hours further south is Queenstown, New Zealand’s adventure capital. Here you can choose to relax and take in the breath taking scenery, made famous in Lord of the Rings and now the Hobbit, or you can take the plunge with the world famous bungy off the Kawarau Bridge, you can take a thrilling jet boat ride through the canyon with Shotover Jet or take a ride up the gondola and have fun on the luge ride at the top.

Or head north from Christchurch to see Kaikoura, home to a variety of marine life and most famous for whale watching and you can swim with the dolphins. Heading north from Kaikoura you’ll find world class wine country in the Marlborough region and the Nelson Tasman region, home to Abel Tasman national park, one of the South Island’s most stunning areas. Here you can kayak, go hiking and explore the beautiful beaches and swim in crystal clear waters.
