Whether you’re set to visit the city for just a few days or are looking to enjoy an extended stay, you’ll find plenty of ways to while away the hours in the Swiss city.
  • Set in Switzerland’s north, Zurich is a city full of art and culture. From classical opera and engrossing theatre through to live music and more than 100 art galleries filled with local and international works of art, there are so many ways to enjoy a taste of the city’s cultural scene. Step back in time and familiarise yourself the people and places that have helped to shape its current incarnation at the famous Museum of Art.
  • Discover what makes modern Zurich so unique with a stroll through its streets. Head to Old Town and immerse yourself in stunning medieval architecture and cobbled alleyways. For a more modern shopping experience, take a trip to Bahnhofstrasse to browse designer stores. Spend an afternoon at the famous chocolate shops and cafes of Paradeplatz Square and look out onto the beautiful Lake Zurich.
  • Home to more than 1,500 restaurants, there’s no shortage of great eats to discover across Zurich. Sink your teeth into dishes originating from across Europe, Asia and beyond, or settle into a meal of hearty Swiss classics. Getting around

Zurich is a beautiful place to take in by foot, full of interesting architecture and cultural hotspots. The main tourist attractions can be found in close proximity, so take the time to walk around and enjoy the city. Zurich also offers free bike rentals all year round. To get a bike you’ll need to pay a small, refundable deposit and show your passport or photo ID. Trams also run often throughout the city and are a cheap and easy way of getting around. To see more of Zurich, there are buses, trains, boats and cable cars available to help you reach the outer suburbs. Driving is not recommended due to constant traffic and lack of parking spots. Taxis are also notoriously expensive here and not really worth your time due to the pedestrianised streets.

Best time to visit Zurich

Zurich has a moderate climate with cold winters and warm, sunny days in summer. Winter is the low season but as the Swiss Alps are located nearby, room rates remain quite high year round. Visit in the summer, between June and August to get the best out of Zurich. The weather is warm and the city comes alive with street parades and festivals, including Zurich Pride, Zurich Openair and Niederdorf Old Town Festival.
