Airport Information Between the Gold Coast (OOL) and Sydney (SYD)

Departing from Gold Coast Airport (OOL)

Gold Coast Airport is the new name for Coolangatta Airport, though you will still see 'OOL' on your tickets and flight itinerary. At 22km from Surfer's Paradise, Gold Coast Airport is in a pretty convenient spot close to the main attractions of the Gold Coast, as werll as the border between New South Wales and Queensland. Unfortunately, there is no train station connecting the Gold Coast Airport to the rest of the city, but there are shuttle buses, ample parking and lots of taxis and ridesharing options available.

If you’re travelled with checked luggage, we recommend that you arrive at Gold Coast Airport at least 60–90 minutes prior to your flight time. Check-in is at least 45–60 minutes prior departure for most airlines and waiting times in queues can get extremely long if you need to weigh and check-in bags. Luckily, Gold COast Airport is equiped with modern check-in facilities for many airlines, including self-service baggage weigh-in and ticket check-in

Arriving at Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD)

Direct flights from Gold Coast Airport (OOL) to Sydney Airport (SYD) only take 80 minutes, making Sydney the perfect destination for a weekend getaway. And with Webjet’s Deal Finder, you can find the best deals on cheap flights to Sydney from Gold Coast any time of year. Located only 8km from Sydney CBD, Kingsford Smith Airport is the primary airport for Sydney and will be here you arrive after your 1 hour 15 minute flight from Gold Coast to Sydney. The Sydney CBD and surrounding suburbs are easily accessed by a convenient and regular train service between Domestic Airport (right below baggage claim) and the City Circle train line. Use your Opal Card for the service, or tap on and off with your Visa, Mastercard or American Express credit or debit card.

You can also commute from Sydney Airport via shuttle or public bus, taxi or rideshare services. Alternatively, if you are returning to Sydney from the Gold Coast, you can always drive yourself and utilise the airport parking options available — though they can be expensive if you plan on parking there for several days. Outside of peak-hour, the drive is approximately 25-minutes from the centre of Sydney CBD to Kingsford Smith. However, the ramps and roads can become highly congested with taxis, rideshares and other vehicles in peak hour — so make sure you allow more time for the commute during these times.
