When departing from Sydney, you should get to Sydney Airport (SYD). Located 7 km south of the CBD, it is the most visited Australian airport. The SYD, in fact called Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport, is fairly easy to reach from anywhere in the city. The most affordable way to get from Sydney to the Sydney Airport is the Airport Link train. It can be caught at many spots in the city, but the most popular departures are from the Central Station, Wynyard, Bondi Beach, and Darling Harbour. Depending on the departure point, the train fare and the time needed to reach the airport will vary. Departing at Bondi may mean a $19.70 ticket and a 45-minute ride, while taking the train at CBD will mean an $18.70 fare and a 15-minute-long commute. The tickets can be bought individually, or you can use an Opal Card.
An Uber or taxi ride can also be a great way to reach the airport. A taxi will need about 20 minutes and up to $60 to reach SYD from CBD.
Parking at Sydney Airport
No matter if your trip is long or short, Blu Emu car park is the cheapest option if you need to park your car near the Sydney Airport.
While Blu Emu is not directly linked to the International Terminal, the trip is not long. To get to it, you’ll need to ride a 24/7 free shuttle service from the parking to the Domestic Terminal. This will take around 15 minutes, with waiting times between the shuttles being less than 30 minutes. When you reach the Domestic Terminal, you can catch a free train from 5 AM until midnight, or take a Transfer Bus from 6 AM until 8:50 PM. Blu Emu costs around $30 for a day of parking, but you can get a cheaper rate if you book in advance.
A parking closer to the International Terminal is also available, but it costs more. If you have to get to the International Terminal in a very short time, parking at P7 car park is the best option. P7 is only a 5-minute walk away from the terminal. Reserved in advance, P7 will cost you around $55 per day. This parking option is a great choice for travellers taking short trips from Sydney to Los Angeles!
Arriving in Los Angeles
Though the city is surrounded by a couple of airports, most commercial international flights to Los Angeles are handled by LAX – Los Angeles International Airport. In fact, LAX is the second busiest commercial airport in the United States, and the fifth busiest airport in the world by passenger traffic.
Getting to Los Angeles from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
With 128 gates arranged in a horseshoe shape, LAX has 9 passenger terminals served by a shuttle bus. All terminals are well connected, so getting around the airport should not be a problem.
The airport is placed about 27 km southwest of the city centre, so getting around is quite easy.
If you choose to take a taxi ride, you’ll need about $50 and a bit over 30 minutes to get to downtown L.A. However, shuttle buses are a more popular option – a FlyAway bus costs only $7 per person to get to Union Station in the downtown, but they also stop at five other locations throughout the city.
