• While the tap water in Montenegro is drinkable, it's safer to stick to bottled water. This is because, in May, they close off the main reservoir in Croatia to clean pipes and revert to the local one. Bottled water is cheap, and you won't have to worry about falling ill.

Getting Around Podgorica

• If you are staying in the city centre, the best way to get around is by foot. All of Podgorica's points of interest are within walking distance, and it's a wonderful way to discover hidden gems as you explore the city.
• For those that are staying further afield, the city has a fleet of buses that you can use. But the lines are not frequent, and it's hard to find out their routes. If you do manage to figure it out, tickets cost EUR 0.40 for a single ride.
• The most convenient way to get around is with a taxi. The city's cabs are cheap, reliable and in good condition. You can catch one either by calling ahead or visiting one of the many taxi stands. Fares are EUR 0.40 per kilometre, and a drive within the city shouldn't cost more than EUR 4.

 When is The Best Time to Visit Podgorica?

 The best time of year to visit is during June or September. The high season has yet to begin in June, meaning you'll have a better chance of finding deals on accommodation. Temperatures are also not at their peak making it more comfortable for outdoor activities. In September, the scorching summer heat will start to retreat as well as the crowds and high hotel rates.

 If you want to avoid the crowds, give Podgorica a skip during July and August. It's peak tourism season, and the city becomes filled with visitors from all over. Along with temperatures, hotel rates are high with prices almost doubling over this period. To save money, book your accommodation a few months in advance to lock in more affordable prices.

 By the end of October, you'll find some of the best rates from hotels that choose to stay open for the winter months. It's also the best time of year to pick up dirt cheap flights and partake in the country's winter sports. From December to February, the increase in snow means you'll have the opportunity to visit Biogradsko and Durmitor National Parks in all their winter wonderland glory.

 Podgorica Airport

 Podgorica Airport is one of Montenegro's two international airports. It's located 12 km from the city centre and serves flights to major European destinations. The airport is a hub for the country's national carrier Montenegro Airlines and its busiest route is to Belgrade.

 Getting To and From Podgorica Airport

 The most reliable and convenient way to get from the airport to the city centre is with a taxi. A ride into Podgorica costs a flat rate of EUR 15, but you could try to haggle the driver for a lower rate.

 There are also combi buses that operate from the airport. But they are not reliable, and their timetables are unpredictable.

 If you don't have a lot of luggage, you can walk from the airport to the nearest train stop. It's only a short distance, and ticket prices are much lower than a taxi.

 For those that want more freedom getting around Podgorica, you can rent a car. The car rental companies are in the southern part of the central arrivals area and have a wide variety of vehicles to choose from.
