Getting Around Naples

• Hiring a car in Naples will make getting around more convenient. The streets are easy to navigate, and rental companies can be found at the airport and in town.
• There aren't that many taxis in Naples, but it's simple enough to order one. You can either call ahead, flag one down or go to one of the many taxi ranks around the city. The meter starts at EUR 3.50 on weekdays and EUR 6 on holidays with prices increasing after 10 p.m.
• The bus and metro lines are a good way to get somewhere central and then walk to your final destination. A single trip costs EUR 1.50 or you can get a day ticket for EUR 4.50 that is valid until midnight the next day.
• Naples also has a two-hour trolley tour for tourists. It runs seven days a week from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and covers over 100 points of interest with narration. You can hop on and hop off at any of the points of attraction throughout the day and tickets cost EUR 60 per person.

When is The Best Time to Visit Naples?

Naples' high season is during its winter months. Tourists descend on the city from December to February to take advantage of the favourable weather. It's one of the few places in Europe where you can still go to the beach at this time. Just bring a warm jacket for the evening when temperatures start to plummet.

The best time to visit Naples is after the peak winter season. From March to May, hotel rates will drop, and you'll get better value for your money. It's also a great option if you want to escape the crowds, with travellers and locals choosing other destinations for spring break.

The city's summer months (June to September) is also a busy time of year. Families descend on Naples for school holidays, driving up hotel rates and availability. The 30°C temperatures and high humidity make this time of year uncomfortable for sightseeing. Be sure to bring your water bottle with you and stay hydrated if you plan to explore the city on foot.

Another great shoulder season is October to November. The summer crowds are gone, and the winter tourists have yet to arrive. You'll find lower hotel prices and the occasional rainstorm. Pack your raincoat and some layers to stay warm as temperatures start to drop.

Naples International is 6 km from the city centre and connects passengers to over 70 destinations around the world. It's the largest metropolitan area in Europe that is not a hub or focus city for any airline.

Getting To and From Naples International Airport

The cheapest way to get from the airport into Naples is with the Alibus. It leaves every 20 minutes and makes two stops at the central railway station and the harbour. The bus runs from 6:30 a.m. until 11:45 p.m. every day. Journey time is 15 to 20 minutes, and a single trip costs EUR 4 per person.

If you miss the bus, your only other option will be to take a taxi. For well-known places, fixed rates apply. Otherwise, the driver will use the meter. A ride to the city centre will cost EUR 19, and the railway station can be reached for EUR 16. Passengers can either make a reservation online or find a taxi waiting outside the arrivals terminal.
