The best time to visit Marrakech is during its two shoulder seasons. From March to April and October to November, the temperatures are more comfortable, and the city is less chaotic. You'll have a better chance finding deals on accommodation, and the lines outside top attractions will be shorter.
Marrakech's high season is during its summer months. From May to September the temperatures, as well as hotel rates, reach dizzying highs. But this doesn't deter European visitors on summer holiday, expect the city's attractions to be bursting with crowds. Make sure you book your accommodation a few months in advance and avoid venturing outside when temperatures are at their highest.
December to February is Marrakech's winter season. Despite the lower temperatures, it's still a busy time for the city. Room rates are high so book at least a few weeks in advance to ensure availability.
Before booking your trip, check to see if your dates fall on any religious holidays. Ramadan, Christmas and certain national holidays can affect public transportation, restaurants, attractions and hotel rates.
Menara Airport is 5 km from the city centre of Marrakech. It serves flights from several European countries as well as from the Arab world. The airport is also a focus city for budget airline Ryanair as well as local carrier Royal Air Maroc.
If you don't have a lot of luggage and want to save money, it's possible to walk from the airport to the Medina. There is a footpath alongside the road, and it should take you about two hours at most.
There is local bus #11 that runs every 20 to 30 minutes from the airport. It's not the best option for visitors with large luggage, but it is the cheapest with tickets costing MAD 4.
There is another bus that you can take is run by Alsa. It runs from 07:00 a.m. to 09:30 p.m. every 30 minutes from the airport into Marrakech. A single trip costs MAD 30, and it serves all the major hotels in the city.
If you want to take a taxi, there is a fleet waiting outside the arrivals terminal. A ride to El Fna Square should cost you MAD 50, and you can also pre-book a taxi if you don't want to haggle down a price with drivers.
For those that want their own set of wheels, the airport has a number of car rental counters near the arrivals terminal.
