Visit the War Remnants Museum
The most visited museum in Ho Chi Minh City, the War Remnants Museum is unveiling horrifying truths of war crimes. The museum consists of several buildings and numerous themed rooms with exhibitions focused on exposing war crimes committed by French and Americans in Vietnam. Amongst many other exhibitions you’ll get to see first-hand the reproductions of infamous ‘’tiger cages’’, graphic photographs of the effects of chemical bombs and sprays used by Americans and the guillotine used by French and South Vietnamese.
Visit the Cu Chi Tunnels
Tunnels that were once used by the Communist guerrilla troops known as Viet Cong to battle the superiorly equipped American and South Vietnamese forces are now a major tourist attraction. Thousands of kilometres long tunnels that spread underneath the city and beyond were used to outsmart and surprise the enemy. Nowadays tourists get to crawl through those tunnels and see booby traps used by soldiers, try meals similar to those that were eaten by soldiers hiding in those tunnels and fire an AK-47. All this will take you decades back into the shoes of those Vietnamese men fighting their battle and give you a unique perspective on what surviving a war truly looked like for those people.

Visit the Chua Van Phat - Temple of Ten Thousand Buddhas
A temple is located in the District 5 area of Ho Chi Minh City and its architecture is reason enough for you to go and visit this place. As its name states it is filled with Buddha statues, literally thousands of them all over the temple. If you’re lucky enough to be there in the time of prayers you’ll get to share a unique spiritual moment with the locals.

Try traditional Vietnamese dishes for less than $5. District 3 hides a place lesser known to tourists but frequently visited by locals that serves lovely Vietnamese dishes for a reasonable price. Com Nieu Sai Gon is a place for locals and people here don’t speak very good English but that shouldn’t be a problem, just go with the flow and enjoy the delicious meals they’ll serve you.
When should you plan a trip from Brisbane (BNE) to Ho Chi Minh City?

The largest airport in Vietnam is the Tan Son Nhat Airport (SGN), a joint military and civilian airport located just 6km north of the Ho Chi Minh City centre. Tan Son Nhat Airport (SGN) has the capacity to welcome up to 17 million passengers a year. It consists of two terminal buildings, Terminal 1 being for domestic flights and Terminal 2 for international flights. Your flight from Brisbane to Ho Chi Minh City will land at Terminal 2, the international terminal.

Getting to Ho Chi Minh City centre from Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN)
Once your flight from Brisbane to Ho Chi Minh lands you’ll be looking for the best way to get to your hotel. Here are a few helpful tips on how to get from SGN to the Ho Chi Minh city centre.
There is no reason why you shouldn’t opt for public transportation and hop on the 152 bus that’s fairly comfortable and costs approximately $1. However, if you’re unsure about Vietnamese public transportation you have many other options.
The most affordable and very comfortable way to get from SGN to Ho Chi Minh City centre (District1), where all the major hotels are located, is by airport shuttle buses. Route 109 buses operate between 5.30 am and 1.30 am and leave every 15-20 minutes. The journey between Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) and District 1 lasts less than 50 minutes.
There is extra space reserved for luggage, the buses have air-conditioning and all the staff speaks English. This ride will cost you up to $2 or less, depending on where you choose to get off and will last less than 50 minutes. Route 49 buses are as good and have even more stops near major hotels. They operate between 5 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. and cost approximately $2.
Since the airport is so close to the city centre, taking a taxi to your accommodation with the airport surcharge included will cost you around $10.
