See more of Ho Chi Minh City
Formerly known as Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City is the largest city in Vietnam. Once you arrive in this colourful city you’ll realise that the best way to navigate through its busy streets is on a moped. We don’t recommend that you rent a moped because very few rules apply on the streets of Ho Chi Minh, instead try the Uber moto services. Not only is it safer but will also save your money and your time.
Webjet is here to help you find cheap flights to Ho Chi Minh City but we don’t stop there! Here are a few suggestions on what to do while you’re there!
Â
Things to do in Ho Chi Minh City
Visit the War Remnants Museum
The most visited museum in Ho Chi Minh City, the War Remnants Museum is unveiling horrifying truths of war crimes. The museum consists of several buildings and numerous themed rooms with exhibitions focused on exposing war crimes committed by French and Americans in Vietnam. Amongst many other exhibitions you’ll get to see first-hand the reproductions of infamous ‘’tiger cages’’, graphic photographs of the effects of chemical bombs and sprays used by Americans and the guillotine used by French and South Vietnamese.
Visit the Cu Chi Tunnels
Tunnels that were once used by the Communist guerrilla troops known as Viet Cong to battle the superiorly equipped American and South Vietnamese forces are now a major tourist attraction. Thousands of kilometres long tunnels that spread underneath the city and beyond were used to outsmart and surprise the enemy. Nowadays tourists get to crawl through those tunnels and see booby traps used by soldiers, try meals similar to those that were eaten by soldiers hiding in those tunnels and fire an AK-47. All this will take you decades back into the shoes of those Vietnamese men fighting their battle and give you a unique perspective on what surviving a war truly looked like for those people.
Â
Visit the Chua Van Phat - Temple of Ten Thousand Buddhas
A temple is located in the District 5 area of Ho Chi Minh City and its architecture is reason enough for you to go and visit this place. As its name states it is filled with Buddha statues, literally thousands of them all over the temple. If you’re lucky enough to be there in the time of prayers you’ll get to share a unique spiritual moment with the locals.
Eat with locals
Try traditional Vietnamese dishes for less than $5. District 3 hides a place lesser known to tourists but frequently visited by locals that serves lovely Vietnamese dishes for a reasonable price. Com Nieu Sai Gon is a place for locals and people here don’t speak very good English but that shouldn’t be a problem, just go with the flow and enjoy the delicious meals they’ll serve you.
