Sydney Airport is a short, 25-minute ride from the city centre. Taxis and Uber offer airport transfers with fares starting at $45 AUD. The cheapest transfer is via the Airport Link trains. Trains run every 10 minutes out of Central Station and will cost $13 AUD on your Opal Card. The Route 400 bus will take you to either Terminal 1 or Terminal 3 at the airport. The 30-kilometre ride to the city centre from Dunedin Airport (DUD) can be made via taxi, shuttle, or private car. If you don’t want to fuss with a taxi or shuttle, book a private car either in advance or at the airport upon arrival. There is a fixed rate of $85 NZD ($79 AUD) for one-way service to the city centre. The Super Shuttle is the cheapest transfer option. Depending on the number of travellers in a group, the one-way service will range between $30-$40 NZD ($28-$37 AUD). Taxis will vary in price and it’s important to agree to a fare prior to departing the airport. In most cases, an honest fare to the city centre is around $75 NZD ($70 AUD).

Pay a visit to Larnach Castle located near the settlement of Pukehiki. The large mansion is full of history, great architecture, hand-carved furniture, and world-class art. The gardens are meticulously maintained and the view from the terrace is amazing. Take a walk back to the times of gold mining and whaling at the Toitū Otago Settlers Museum. The mock living space of early settlers includes a real horse carriage. Get a tour of the private, working conservation reserve that houses the rare yellow-eyed penguins. See the nesting areas of the blue penguins and maybe a few seals upon the shore. A great day for the entire family. Inside the Octagon you’ll find the stunning piece of architecture known as St. Paul’s Cathedral. Stroll along the inside of the working church to see the minute carvings at every turn as well as stained glass windows.
