Flight Guide from Sydney to Birmingham

Need to know

Britain’s second largest city and the geographical heart of England, Birmingham is a thriving metropolis known for its distinctive local ‘Brummie’ accent. Experiencing somewhat of a renaissance, the city is filled with galleries, museums, shops and restaurants, and is well-planned with pedestrian zones and plenty of public parks. Must-visits include the Thinktank Science Museum, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Library of Birmingham and the Victoria Law Courts.

To get yourself oriented, take a walk around Birmingham’s centre, making sure to explore the Jewellery Quarter, Europe's largest jewellery district which produces 40% of the United Kingdom’s jewellery, and the Chinese Quarter, where you can find some fantastic Cantonese food. Speaking of food, Birmingham boasts a huge array of Pakistani restaurants, including many which are completely vegetarian, so be sure to enjoy a touch of culinary exploration.

Birmingham has many beautiful parks and green spaces perfect for an afternoon stroll. Check out Cannon Hill Park, Lickey Hills Country Park and the astonishing Birmingham Botanical Gardens and Glasshouses. It’s also a little-known fact that Birmingham has more miles of canals than Venice, and a tour by canal boat is a unique way to see the city. Take a canal tour around through the Gas Street Basin, out towards Birmingham’s suburbs, or into Dudley’s limestone caves, just half an hour away from the city centre.
