Things to do in Barcelona
This large, unfinished Roman Catholic cathedral is an incredible UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors can gain the full experience and climb to the top of the Nativity and Crypt towers if they reserve tickets, which cost €29 ($46.30 AUD). Getting to the top of the tower is quite a hike, at 300 steps up a narrow staircase. At the top of both towers, you can have a stunning, panoramic view of the city.
If you’re looking for a blend of natural beauty and incredible architecture, Park Guell is the spot for you. Entrepreneur Eusebi Guell assigned the artistic design of the park to Antoni Gaudi, the same artist who designed many of the city’s architectural icons. Wander through this public park, taking in some of the highlights, such as the mosaic salamander, the municipal garden, and the Gaudi House Museum.
Take a stroll down this pedestrian street, which connects the Plaça de Catalunya with the Christopher Columbus Monument. Spanish poet Federico García Lorca once said La Rambla is “the only street in the world which I wish would never end.” The street is lined with shops, restaurants, bars, and street performers. La Rambla can be pretty crowded, especially when the weather is nice, and pickpockets might prey on tourists during these times, so keep close watch of your belongings.
Officially known as La Pedrera - "the stone quarry" - Casa Mila is a modernist building that served as the final residence designed by Antoni Gaudi. Melbourne Airport (MEL) is situated 23 kilometres (14 miles) north of the city centre and is the departure point for most international flights from Melbourne. Avalon Airport is another airport serving Melbourne. It’s a smaller airport with flights within Australia, but some international flights depart from Avalon if they are connecting through Sydney.

Getting to Melbourne Airport (MEL)
The SkyBus is the most affordable way to get to Melbourne Airport. Each bus route runs every day of the week and is equipped with WiFi onboard. The main SkyBus route runs 24 hours a day and departs from Southern Cross Station in the CBD. You can also catch a SkyBus from the Southbank, Docklands, St Kilda, the western suburbs, and the Mornington Peninsula. Prices vary based on departure location and start at $18 AUD.
For a more convenient trip to the airport, you can take a taxi or Uber. A taxi or ridesharing car can bring you to Melbourne Airport in less than a half hour. From the CBD, taxi fare to the airport costs about $55-$75 AUD.
If you’d rather drive to Melbourne Airport, the Long Term car park is the cheapest option. You can park for less than $10 AUD a day. Once you’ve parked your car, a free shuttle bus is available to take you from the car park to the airport terminals in less than 5 minutes.
Getting to Avalon Airport (AVV)
Avalon Airport is located about 50 kilometres (31 miles) southwest of Melbourne’s city center. The SkyBus has an Avalon City Express route, which picks up passengers from Southern Cross Station and on Synnot Street in Werribee. Tickets from the CBD cost $22 AUD, while tickets from Werribee are approximately $19 AUD. It will take you about 50 minutes to get to Avalon Airport from the CBD and 30 minutes from Werribee.
Avalon Airport has a large car park. The way the rates work is the longer you park, the lower your daily rate will be. A weeklong park costs $79 AUD, while parking for two weeks costs $132 AUD. The car park is under 24-hour surveillance, making it a secure place to park your car. Additionally, it is located just outside the airport, so you walk from your car straight to the terminal in a few minutes.
Arriving in Barcelona
