Top Experiences for Visitors
Cathedral Rock National Park
Cathedral Rock National Park is just a stone’s throw away from the city and makes for an excellent day trip while holidaying on Brisbane to Armidale flights. The park is located within the New England Tablelands and is home to the tallest peak in the region, Round Mountain. Another signature characteristic of the park is the collection of large granite boulders that can be spotted there. The best way to explore the park is on the 6-kilometre (3.7-mile) Cathedral Rock Track. You’ll get to see Round Mountain and the park’s granite boulders and also take in panoramic views over the surrounding area.
Waterfall Way
Waterfall Way is a scenic 185-kilometre (115-mile) road that stretches through the New England region of NSW. Armidale is located at the western end of Waterfall Way and is the perfect jump-off point for a day trip along the road. It winds through the rainforest, passes the peaks and valleys of the Great Dividing Range, offers access to seven national parks, and ends at Coffs Harbour on the coast. And as you may expect from the name, there are plenty of beautiful waterfalls to see along the way, such as Wollomombi Falls, Ebor Falls, and Dangar Falls.
Armidale & Region Aboriginal Cultural Centre & Keeping Place
There’s a rich Aboriginal history and culture to learn about after you fly from Brisbane to Armidale. One of the top places to go is the Aboriginal Cultural Centre & Keeping Place. The centre is divided into different sections, including an art gallery, a history room, an outdoor bush tucker walk, and a replica tribal village. The best way to take it all in is to join onto a guided tour of the Aboriginal Cultural Centre & Keeping Place. You may also be able to catch a cultural performance while visiting the centre.
The Best Time to Visit
Armidale has four distinct seasons throughout the year. Many travellers and locals consider autumn to be the best time to experience Armidale and the surrounding New England region. The days are sunny, evenings are chilly, and the autumn foliage is a sight to behold. You’ll see beautiful foliage around the city, but head into the nearby national parks for a truly breathtaking view. Pack layers when visiting in autumn – days get warm with high temperatures between 17° and 24°C, and evenings can cool down to about 5°C.
Spring and summer are nice times to travel as well. Spring weather is mild with temperatures similar to those of autumn. Summer days get warm, typically reaching highs of about 27°C but sometimes reaching about 30°C. Although it’s hot, humidity levels are low so you can enjoy plenty of outdoor activities when it’s sunny. Have a few indoor activities planned as back-up because summer gets more rain than the other seasons.
Winter is the low season, but it’s when you’ll find the cheapest rates on Brisbane to Armidale flights. Come prepared for cold weather, frosty mornings, and a chance of snow. Winter temperatures reach highs of about 13° to 15°C but regularly drop below freezing at night.
