Webjet's Destination Guides
Set to open in June 2013 at the Regent Theatre, KING KONG will combine dazzling choreography, traditional puppetry, breathtaking circus skills and advanced animatronics to showcase one the of the most romantic and timeless love stories of our time.
The Story.
KING KONG tells the story of a Hollywood director Carl Denham, who takes his crew on a perilous journey to the last uncharted place on earth, Skull Island, to capture a huge creature, the last of his kind, Kong. The love affair between Denham’s star, Ann Darrow, and his first mate, Jack Driscoll, unfolds against the excitement of this journey, as the action moves between two different worlds – the primitive world of a lost island and the glamorous, spectacular world of 1930’s Manhattan.
The Production.
Five years in the making, KING KONG will feature a cast of more than 40 actors, singers, dancers and circus performers, and a team of puppeteers who will bring to life one of the most technologically advanced puppets in the world – a one-tonne, six-metre tall silverback gorilla.
The exciting score will feature modernised musical standards including I Wanna Be Loved By You, Brother Can You Spare A Dime and Get Happy, along with new and existing songs from some of the world’s best contemporary artists including Robert Del Naja from Massive Attack, Sarah McLachlan, Justice, Guy Garvey from Elbow and The Avalanches.
This astounding new multi-million dollar production will inspire wonder, romance and sense of adventure, and will redefine the way we experience musical theatre.
