Auckland. One city, two worlds.
Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city, is a region where urban fun meets natural landscapes, allowing you to enjoy the best of two worlds in one short break.
Plus, it’s just a 3-hour flight from Australia’s eastern seaboard.

Natural Wonders
Rangitoto Island, Auckland’s youngest volcano, is a 25-minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland. For something a little different, you can kayak there too.
Nearby, Waiheke Island, known as ‘the island of wine’, has over 30 wineries and further afield is Great Barrier Island, which has a stunning dark sky sanctuary that can’t be missed.
Back on the mainland, discover rugged coastlines and black-sand beaches on Auckland’s west coast, or hike your way across the region, from native forest trails, to coastal walkways and city-based walks, including the 16km Coast-to-Coast Walkway from Princess Wharf to Onehunga.

Food and Wine
Auckland has many dining districts that offer a range of options, from fine dining to delicious cheap eats. Head to Viaduct Harbour and Wynyard Quarter for waterfront views; Takapuna for a beachy vibe; Britomart, Federal Street, Ponsonby and Parnell for trendy eateries.
Auckland’s three wine regions include Waiheke Island, Kumeu, located in west Auckland, which is the oldest grape growing region in Auckland; and Matakana, located north of the city, filled with wineries and art galleries.
For fresh and local produce, visit a market, including La Cigale French Market (open Saturdays and Sundays), the newly renovated Auckland Fish Market, which is located in the city, or Matakana Farmers’ Markets (open Saturdays), which is an hours’ drive north of the city.
Arts and Culture
See impressive Māori artwork at the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki and learn about New Zealand's history at the Auckland War Memorial Museum, both located in the city. North of Auckland, you’ll find Sculpturem, featuring sculpture-filled gardens, six art galleries, and a vineyard. You’ll also discover Brick Bay Sculpture Trail, which showcases contemporary sculptures.
Adventure
For 360-degree views of Auckland, head to New Zealand’s tallest building, the Sky Tower, and walk around its outside platform, 192m above ground. Or, try the SkyJump base-jump experience and enjoy pure adrenaline as you descend. To see Auckland high above sea level, embark on an adventure with Auckland Seaplanes, jump from a thrilling 20,000ft with Skydive Auckland, or zipline over native bush, while enjoying the incredible views of the city and beyond with EcoZip Adventures.
