Onslow sits at the Mouth of the Ashburton River between the Pilbara Hinterland and the sea. Originally known as ‘Ashburton’, Onslow is the oldest town in the shire of the same name. This pretty coastal town is ideal for fishing, snorkelling and diving. It’s also a great spot to see the May-October visual phenomenon of the ‘staircase to the moon’, an optical illusion which sees the moon rise over low tide, forming a ‘staircase’ of light from the water.

There are some great lookouts at sunrise and sunset beaches where you can take in the stunning views, and for those with an interest in history, there are also historic ruins of ‘Old Onslow’ to explore; the town was abandoned in 1925. Follow the heritage trail and discover Onslow’s indigenous, colonial and pearl lugging past.
