Bamaga’s Northern Peninsula Airport is serviced by Regional Express Airlines (Rex) with direct flights from Cairns, Aurukun, Weipa and Horn Island. Bamaga is located on the western side of the tip of Cape York Peninsula and is one of mainland Australia’s northernmost settlements. Bamaga is one of two Saibai Islander (one of the islands in the Torres Strait) communities, and the town is named after its founder, Bamaga Ginau.
May to October (dry season) is the best time to visit, as during the wet season, some roads are impassable. Bamaga is a popular place for fishing, camping and 4WD tours, with guided fishing and hunting tours also available.
