The Auckland War Memorial Museum combines a museum and a war memorial. Occupying one of the best known examples of neoclassical buildings in Auckland, the Auckland Museum was built in 1929 and overlooks the beautiful Waitemata Harbour. Entry to the museum is by donation only and houses a vast collection of Māori artefacts and information about Māori culture and history. The museum also has a great collection of New Zealand natural history exhibitions, in addition to the ever-changing temporary exhibitions from around the world.
