23rd February 2006

Webjet, Australia’s Multi Award Winning Online Travel Service, today notes Flight Centre's assertion that in Australia they are "entrenched as the Number One travel agency website." (1)

Commenting, Webjet’s Managing Director, David Clarke, said: “the Hitwise data referred to by Flight Centres in their release relates to site traffic measured only between July and December 2005 and makes no reference to:

  • Transaction numbers processed
  • Total transaction values processed

We also note that unlike Webjet, customers cannot make international bookings on the Flight Centre site and further, unlike Webjet where we have fully disclosed total transaction values, Flight Centre have made no reference to the dollar values actually transacted.

We challenge Flight Centre to make full disclosure.

We also await with interest the February 2006 market share figures relating to site traffic and in the meantime, in noting that Flight Centre's commentary acknowledged that the challenge for them is to make profits from online sales, respectfully draw the market’s attention to our half year results which demonstrate clear profitability for Webjet”.

Webjet's ASX code is WEB
